THE CHALLENGE

How best to approach and deliver accredited infection control compliance training to high risk industries

As a result of COVID-19, many workers require skills to decrease transmission of infection when undertaking their daily duties. While the fundamental principles of infection control may be consistent, these skills will likely require some contextualisation in different industries.

During 2020, the Australian Government partnered with all state and territory governments to establish an $80 million Infection Control Training Fund.  This was to fast‑track free or heavily subsidised infection control training in support of the re-opening of customer‑facing businesses nationwide.

The funding would provide at least 80,000 places to support this critical infection control training in customer-facing businesses including retail, tourism, hospitality, cleaning, security, transport and logistics, aged and disability care.

OUR SOLUTION

Creating a course to deliver key messages of best practice with infection prevention control

Working closely with Kineo, a Workplace Infection Prevention and Control course was created.  This was developed and delivered to a fast turnaround, supported by a collaborative go-to-market-strategy with Business Australia to get the messaging out to an extensive audience.

Business Australia hosted a webinar and promoted to Business Australia members. The panel speakers included a well credentialed and impartial government representative from WorkSafe to manage expectations and explain regulatory change and Kineo APAC’s MD, a leadership expert.

Both applied their specialism and discussed implementing changes and leading through change, brought about by COVID-19.The webinar focused on bolstering business progress, managing risk and infection protection control education where everyone has a role in managing ongoing COVID-19 risks.

An approach to support and promote behavioural change

In partnership with Momentum Consulting, Kineo Courses in APAC produced a 2-hour course on Workplace Infection Prevention and Control to promote behaviourally focused learning outcomes.

The vital workplace skills covered, include:

  • Hand hygiene practices
  • Effective surface cleaning
  • Use of personal protective equipment
  • Disposal of contaminated waste
  • Hazard identification, control and reporting
  • Appropriate protocols and responses in the event of an incident
  • Knowledge regarding the basis of infection and transmission

Creative and engaging multimedia learning content

The course was purposely built to engage the learner with rich videos, animations, activities and downloadable takeaways. It contains a ‘smart’ role selector which at the click of a button contextualises the content and the aesthetics for a learner in customer service, food handling, or a general workspace.

The course contains professional voice over and can turn on Accessibility functionality for learners with a disability.

Upon completion of the Workplace Infection Prevention and Control course, learners will be able to;

  • Follow precautions for infection prevention and control
  • Identify infection hazards and assess the risk, and
  • Follow procedures for managing risks associated with infection transmission.

THE RESULTS

Fast delivery with focus on concise messaging and learner impact

The course was delivered in record time; in less than 4 weeks. It has already been rolled out through Momentum Consulting with 1,000 learners forecasted to complete the course and activity assessments before the end of the year

Simon Sentance, Kineo Courses Product Owner added:

“A great output from both organisations as we look to make a difference not only to our customers, but our customer’s customers and bring back confidence to the community in the high street.”
