This course focuses on the prevention of injuries from one of the most common causes of workplace injury, manual tasks. Hazardous manual tasks involve repetitive movements, sustained or awkward postures, and exposure to vibrations. Learn effective techniques for safe lifting, pushing, and pulling, and understand the common hazards linked to lifting, carrying, and workstation ergonomics.

Target Audience

The ready2work HSE series is designed for all staff and will typically follow from the ready2start series. With a basic grounding from the associated courses in that range, we can now focus on specific hazards and more detail. Workers should complete these courses at the very start of their employment and most titles would need to be refreshed every one or two years based on workplace requirements to ensure they are updated with the latest protocols and practices.

Learning Outcomes

Understand what constitutes a manual task and how to identify risks associated with prolonged holding, carrying, awkward or heavy items, and other hazardous manual tasks. Gain knowledge of proper techniques for safe lifting, pushing, and pulling to minimise the risk of injury. Learn best practices for handling awkward and heavy items effectively. Recognise common hazards associated with workstations and learn strategies to manage and mitigate these risks, ensuring a safer working environment.

Topics include: Manual Tasks: What are Manual Tasks? - Identifying and Managing Hazardous Manual Task Risks - Prolonged holding or carrying - Awkward and/or heavy items - Techniques for safe lifting - Pushing and Pulling - Common Hazards associated with Lifting and Carrying - Common hazards associated with workstations
