Creating learning excellence in councils throughout Queensland

About

Peak Services

The training entity of Peak Services and Kineo have been working together for over 10 years and the relationship has been a very happy one. As this has evolved over time, Peak Services has fine-tuned the needs of the councils they support, to meet their differing training requirements. These encompass indoor and outdoor styles of required learning that do not compare with other industries given the nature of the work itself. When supporting the many councils in their care, relationship development is vital for them to meet and even pre-empt the needs of the councils they support. Peak Services maintains a high level of communication with their council contacts.

Customising training to meet a variety of learner group needs across the region

As Queensland is a vast state, training challenges differ between councils. For instance, the 16 First Nations councils may have some literacy and numeracy challenges coupled with cultural differences that can affect the learning. Peak carefully considers their approach to each of these learning opportunities to gain the best outcome for council.

Like any other organisation there is competition with other training offerings, however Peak Services’ point ofdifference is their accredited range of local government courses. This sets them apart along with their customised learning content to suit the different styles of council learners, according to their role and council duties.

A digital solution works very well, especially for remote council areas that need to use this delivery style exclusively. Torres Strait Regional Council is particularly remote for instance, and they can use the platform with ease. Without access to the training delivery platform, they would find it hard to access the learning they require. eLearning is also a great solution for many small and remote councils with limited training budgets.

Working with the account manager at Kineo, course bundles were created to make it easy for councils to choose what topics of training they needed most. The Induction bundle outshone others with three inhouse council specific courses and three Kineo Courses.

•  Bullying & Harassment for Employees,

•  Work Health and Safety Fundamentals, and

•  Sexual Harassment training.

Peak Services offers a vast range of products and services and understands flexibility for the learner is important. It’s key for them is to provide training that suits the audience. Their 65/35 face-to-face virtual split blended training offering covers specialist areas such as asset management, finance, investigation, media, investigation and wellness.  Digital training is convenient, cost-effective, available 24/7 from any location and also acts as a marketing tool for them.

As part of the support to their councils, Peak Services publishes three virtual training calendars but also offers inhouse face to face training for large groups.

• Short Course and Wellbeing Calendar

•  Elected Member Calendar

•  Accredited Course Calendar

Patricia Paolini is the Business Manager– Training at Peak Services. She evidently loves what she does. To always be at the cutting edge of new needs is her mission. Wellbeing and psychological safety are relatively new areas of focus, and this is pitched to be an important aspect going into 2023 as new regulation details are added to the current WHS Act 2011.  She is thrilled to beworking towards promoting Peak’s range of wellness-psychosocial workshops to Queensland councils.

During 2022 and into 2023, CyberSecurity is another topic for a best practice approach. With cyber-attacks on the increase and funding provided to Peak Services, to provide this training to councils, Peak Services has delivered 200 workshops to date, with 100 funded sessions remaining for 2023.

When asked how Peak Services can add value to the councils they look after, Patricia stated:

“Kineo offers a good-level price pointfor my clients, as well as a robust system. The reporting is great which means less admin and we receive prompts when training is due to expire.  This takes away a lot of administrative burden for the organisation – and there have been no frustrations.”

On the level of service, she receives from partnering with Kineo, Patricia added:

“Our account manager is excellent with a great personality and understands my client needs.  They are easy to work with and responsive.”
The service is affordable, easy to use,the library is of a good quality and the implementation program is great, where a project manager is allocated to new clients to take us through the set up.”

Partnering to be stronger and hone a robust future-proofed learning strategy

The mission for Peak Services is to stay at the cutting edge of new learning needs with digital courses and specialistface-to-face trainers to be ahead of the new codes of practice coming into councils shortly.
